| Airport and Facilities The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport is conveniently located at the heart of the Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ). It is the country's premier international gateway in the north that boasts of two 3.2 kilometer long parallel runways capable of accommodating wide-bodied aircrafts with a world class passenger terminal and modern cargo facilities that provide the necessary airside and landside amenities. Among the facilities and equipment in place are the following: airfield ground lighting systems, navigational aids, communications equipment, meteorological equipment and emergency services. The airport has a 4E airport classification and meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for Category I precision-approach runway. It also has a Category IX Crash, Fire and Rescue capability. United Parcel Service, has made the Philippines through DMIA (formerly Clark Airport) its intra-Asia hub. International and local airline carriers are likewise flying in and out of DMIA providing for an easier travel time to major destinations in Asia with connecting fights to the other parts of the globe. Among the carriers are Asiana Airlines, Tiger Airways and Air Asia. Other local airlines like Seair and Asian Spirit provide daily flights to major cities in the Philippines including daily flights to and from Metro Manila in as short as 25 minutes travel time. Infrastructure and Support Power At present, an existing 50 MW power plant supplies the power needs of the airport complex and the expected influx of commercial and industrial projects at the CSEZ. Telecommunications A dual fiber optic backbone and digital exchange system provides advanced telephone, cellular and other communication services. Water & Sewerage Existing water supply facilities consist of deep wells with a total capacity of 5,000 gpm. Storage is through nine tanks with a total capacity of 3.75 million gallons. The sewerage system on the other hand, consist of four pumping stations, a concrete industrial waste pipeline, oxidizing ponds, and a sewerage treatment plant. Transport System Getting in and out of Clark becomes easy with the current expansion of the North Luzon Expressway (NLE) to six lanes. A spur road connecting Clark to the NLE is currently under construction. Additionally, the proposed construction of the North Rail Line connecting Clark to Manila Rapid Railway System will greatly boost its accessibility. Under the Clark-Subic Alliance, the Subic- Clark Tarlac Toll Road Project is currently underway and is expected to be complete before 2004. |
